Sister Agnes Cecelia Kunkel - (Sister Agnes Cecelia)
A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario, died in Pembroke on the 7th day of January, 2016 in the 79th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, her sister Lauretta Kunkel, GSIC, devoted nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph Martin and Helena Mary (Rich) and her sisters, Mary Hogan and Kathleen Stockill Sister Agnes was born on January 5, 1919, in Heisler, Alberta. She entered the Community on August 4th, 1937, pronouncing final vows on August 4th, 1942. Following graduation as an R.N. from the Pembroke General Hospital, Sister Agnes served in the Pembroke General, the Sault St. Marie General, the Penetanguishene General and St. Joseph's Hospital, Lestock, Saskatchewan. Moving to the Pembroke General as Laboratory Assistant in 1950, she then completed her RT in Cytology in 1972, following which she initiated and headed the Cytology Department at Pembroke General Hospital, a post she held for the next 16 years. In retirement, she ministered in the position of Sacristan at the Motherhouse for 10 years. Her final years were lived peacefully at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Visitation at Caritas Residence, 215 Deacon Street, Pembroke, ON, Saturday, January 9th, 2016 from 12:00 noon - 1:20 p.m. Funeral Liturgy on Saturday, January 9th, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in Caritas Residence Chapel.
